Job Description:

The Medication Access Specialist (MAS) is responsible for the overall management of medication coordination and removal of barriers that prevent patients from receiving their medications. The MAS will help identify and enroll eligible patients into our Medication Management program and consider the barriers to care that prevent patients from achieving optimal prescription care. This is including, but not limited to, benefits investigations, ability to follow complicated drug regimens, transportation issues, socio-economic concerns, language barriers, and patient’s support system. The MAS will strive to overcome these barriers providing the patient with the tools necessary to adhere to the optimal drug regimen for their condition(s). In addition, duties will include communication with the prescriber’s office to acquire necessary information to submit prescriptions to the patient’s insurance for approval and helping arrange timely delivery of the medication(s). The MAS will link communication between the patient, pharmacist, insurance, and clinic staff to ensure coordinated care.

The MAS will be assigned daily tasks that are to completed independently and prioritized based on the patient and pharmacist needs. Duties of this position require proper judgement, sensitivity, and strict adherence to Highland Hospital policy on confidentiality and the protection of Private Health Information. This individual must have excellent phone etiquette and be open to feedback to create strong collaborative work relationships.

Salary Range:

$17.50-23.22 an hour Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Job Requirements:

  1. Education: High School Graduate or GED required. Associates degree in a medical, secretarial or related field preferred OR certified pharmacy technician (PTCB).

  2. Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
