The Buyer is responsible for procuring inventory, production, and facility materials including managing suppliers, developing, and implementing commodity strategies, performing supplier capability assessments, and identifying future suppliers. Exercises sound and ethical judgment in contract negotiations (including terms and conditions) to leverage highest level of quality at lowest cost. Responsibilities include negotiation of contractual terms and conditions and development of comprehensive scopes of work.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase material for all outside services, calibration of equipment, overhead/inventory supplies.

  • Re-order point supplies, facility requirements, and production material.

  • Price bill of materials to determine material cost and delivery for bids and proposals.

  • Develop a supplier base that can provide on-time shipments, competitive pricing, quality products, and good customer relations.

  • Obtain competition from valued suppliers and evaluate to determine price reasonableness and delivery.

  • Track, maintain, and update all open purchase orders and material due dates. Coordinate with vendors to ensure on-time delivery. Attend production meetings to provide material status for critical items.

  • Maintain vendor files for evaluations and monitoring.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required and/or assigned to include receiving/shipping and parts kitting.

  • Follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.

  • Maintain assigned workplace, materials, and equipment in a safe, secure, and neat condition.

  • Work cooperatively and constructively with subordinates, peers, supervisors, vendors, customers, and general public, to promote and achieve the most cost-effective and ethical goals of the company.

  • Become familiar with and comply with Standard Operating Procedures, Personnel Policies and Procedures, Affirmative Action Plan, and the systems, procedures and equipment applicable to the incumbent's work assignment.

  • Bring to the attention of his/her supervisor any incidents, conditions and/or other matters which may inhibit the cost-effective and ethical performance of the incumbent's work assignment, or which could adversely affect the Company's business and/or reputation.

  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in the purchasing, negotiation, inventory, estimating, and contracting of production materials and services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and experience in purchasing, bid evaluation, analysis techniques, and project management.

  • Possess a balance of assertiveness, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Possess exceptional oral/presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills.

  • Possess Strong Microsoft application skills. Excel is a must.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
