JOB DESCRIPTION:The laboratory of Dr. Basavaraj Balapal at the Nathan Kline Institute of Psychiatric Research in Orangeburg, NY (http://cdr.rfmh.org/Balapal.Lab.html), invites applications for a motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. Our research focuses on elucidating the precise mechanisms governing gene expression in neurobehavioral dysfunction, with a specific emphasis on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder models.JOB DUTIES:Investigate the role of cannabinoid receptors and suppressive chromatin in neurodegeneration and persistent neurobehavioral defects in the CNS.Utilize cutting-edge cell-type specific epigenomic and other molecular and behavioral techniques.Address fundamental questions related to neurodegeneration and persistent neurobehavioral defects through biochemical, molecular, and "omic" (epi and genomic) approaches.Lead and co-lead projects, design experiments to generate high-dimensional data (biochemical, molecular, single-cell transcriptomes, and epigenomes).Collaborate closely with team members and external collaborators.Receive training in animal behavior and electrophysiology.Mentor summer students based on interest and availability.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Mininmum Quals:Minimum of a master's degree in neuroscience, Biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.5+ years of experience in a research settingPefered Qualifications:Ph.D. in neuroscience, Biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.Strong background in biochemical, molecular, and omic techniques.Experience with animal behavior and electrophysiology is desirable.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
