ABOUT THIS ROLE
This opportunity is for a Director, Software Development who will manage and grow one or more engineering teams under Audible’s Playback team which owns the core playback logic end-to-end. All our services, systems and players are invoked each time customers click play (or download a title) to enjoy the best playback experience. Specifically, Playback org owns 1) Core playback logic on players such as Android, iOS and Web, 2) Playback services related to content delivery infrastructure, security & digital rights management, and 3) Playback metrics, insights and platform, obsessing over the core playback metrics and trends that represent the health of Audible Playback and delivery. Achieving this vision means continuously innovating, enhancing the tools and strengthening our development process, how we work and leveraging new technologies to deliver services. As a Director, Software Development, you will...
Manage 1-2 scrums teams in Players and insights space
Lead cross-functional project delivery across Audible and Amazon teams
Promote development and operational excellence for our flagship solutions
Mentor and support high-performing engineers, fostering their growth and expertise
Collaborate with diverse teams to create innovative software that captivates our community and motivates our colleagues
Handle all aspects of software development, including operational metrics and support for your team's software
Drive continuous improvement of delivery performance and quality in an agile environment

Basic Qualifications
7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
5+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
Experience leading full stack development web teams
7+ years’ experience of software development and deployment of distributed multi-tier applications
3+ years’ experience managing agile software projects across multiple and geographically distributed teams
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in a variety of web and SOA distributed technologies and platforms such as Java/J2EE
Experience implementing solutions leveraging AWS capabilities
Experience leveraging machine learning models to deliver insights and enrich customer experiences
Action-oriented strategic thinker
Be able to thrive in an ambiguous environment - where change is the only constant
Detail oriented to ensure that project success
Strong verbal and communication skills
Strong analytical skills and an out of the box thinker
Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and work in a very fast paced environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
