Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Director for Campus Engagement (ADCE) for the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities (SJE). The Assistant Director for Campus Engagement (ACDE) will join a vibrant team at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, which is considered one of the "Top 25 Most LGBTQIA-Friendly Colleges" in the country by Campus Pride. As a member of the Cultural Center Collaborative, SJE also works in close collaboration with the Paul Robeson Cultural Center, the Center for Latino Arts and Culture, and the Asian American Cultural Center to design both individual and collective co-curricular development opportunities.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Works in partnership with relevant campus partners to develop programmatic offerings of the center including but not limited to LGBTQIA+ Welcome Week, Trans Visibility and Empowerment Week, Body Positivity and Self-Love Project, GAYpril, and Rainbow Graduation.
  • Centers intersectionality, advocacy, and justice for layered marginalized identities in their work especially around race, ethnicity, nationality, disability status, and gender identity and expression.
  • Works closely to advise student organizations and our special interest housing community, Rainbow Perspectives.
  • Co-manages student staff, undergrad and graduate and field student concerns, crisis, and emergencies.
  • Builds partnerships across Rutgers University campuses that support and uplift equity, resources building, and strong relationships that positively impact the student experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in education, student affairs, or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A working knowledge and understanding of diverse student needs, gender expansive identities, affection, and sexuality, identity development theories, and intersectionality as a framework and educational praxis.
  • Prior experience in program planning; large and small scale.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a gender and sexuality student center within a higher education setting.
