The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for ensuring that the desired appearance, fit, and construction standards are met. The senior technical designer will have responsibility of one or more product categories as well as train and mentor technical designers to develop skills and knowledge.
Job Description:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion or technical design or equivalent years of related work experience required
Work Experiences:
5+ years of related work experience required
Experience with measuring garments, garment construction, the fit evaluation process, and communicating garment corrections required
1-3 years’ experience with 3D fashion design preferred
Skills:
Proficiency in fabric construction and garment construction
Extensive knowledge of pattern making, correction, and grading
Ability to complete fit evaluations and implement necessary corrections
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels, both internal and external
Advanced organizational skills required to mitigate risk and meet multiple deadlines in frequently changing environment
Ability to analyze, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts to make effective business decisions
Responds positively to change, embracing and using new practices or values to accomplish goals and solve problems
Maintain the customer’s perspective as a driving force behind business decisions and activities
Ability to work collaboratively with overseas factories and manufacturers to ensure product quality and consistency
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and FLEX PLM
Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Proficiency with a 2D/3D pattern making system (Browzwear preferred)
Responsibilities:
Adherence to the time and action calendar including tracking and following up on outstanding submittals of fit, size run, preproduction, and production garments
Manage all fit sessions to increase quality of fit and construction and add efficiencies to fit processes while improving and maintaining measuring guides
Lead and maintain fit model application, selection process, and manage the Model “Go -See Meetings”
Lead team into streamlining fit process in 3D
Own 2D patterns and direct fit corrections in 3D
Engineer product to reduce costs by utilizing 3D technology
Create and manage library of 2D/3D patterns, blocks, and templates of key silhouettes and measurements
Optimize 3D technology by initiating its use in initial design development
Work with Quality Assurance to ensure fabrics and components are compatible with technical fit and specifications
Identify potential production, quality, and costing issues at conception and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity
Lead team to create, manage, update, and organize specifications, grades, and grade rules in Flex PLM and Pattern Making Software
Evaluate competition to compare fit, products, pricing, and design
Assist in the documentation of Standard Operating Procedures
Attend related seminars and stay up to date on industry developments in fit, construction, and new techniques
Required to learn company policies, procedures, and safety rules
Duties may change and associates may be required to perform other duties as assigned

Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior
Up to 10% domestic and international travel, overnight stays as needed
