Hair and Makeup Staff Summer 2024

 

The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theatre company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2024 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces a seven-show repertory season and three Greenshows across four venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.

 

Contract dates vary by position.

 

Build contracts begin May/June and end June/July. Run contracts begin in May/June and end September/October. Some contracts can be combined if interested in build and run. Please check dates in specific job descriptions.

 

Wigmaster: Randall & Engelstad 5/1/24 - 6/30/24; Anes 6/10/24 - 7/16/24

 

Assistant Wigmaster: Randall & Engelstad 5/1/24 - 6/30/24; Anes 6/10/24 - 7/16/24

 

Cosmetologist / Barber: Contract early/late May through mid-September/October

 

Hair and Makeup Run Crew Supervisor: Randall 5/27/24 - 10/10/24; Engelstad 5/27/24 - 9/10/24; Anes 6/24/24 - 10/10/24

 

Hair and Makeup Run Crew: Randall 6/10/24 - 10/10/24; Engelstad 6/6/24 - 9/10/24; Anes 7/5/24 -10/10/24

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

General:

 

• The Utah Shakespeare Festival is multi-cultural organization.

• We seek skilled Hair and Make-up professionals with the skill to provide services to a diverse company.

Wigmaster:

 

• Works with costume designer and hair and makeup director to determine approach to implementing design.

• Develops schedule with hair and makeup director.

• Oversees daily operation of a makeup studio and wig construction of assigned productions with assistant.

• Participates in the construction and implementation of design elements.

Assistant Wigmaster:

 

• Assists the Wigmaster in constructing and implementing hair and makeup designs.

• Oversees daily operation of makeup studio and wig construction of assigned productions.

Cosmetologist / Barber:

 

• Responsible for haircutting, hairstyling and some color projects.

• Also will assist actors with hairstyles, wigs, and makeup as part of the Run Crew.

Hair and Makeup Run Crew Supervisor:

 

• Supervises the run crew and maintenance of productions. Assists actors with hairstyles, wigs, and makeup.

• Also maintains styles of wigs and facial hair during the run of assigned productions.

Hair and Makeup Run Crew:

 

• Assists actors with hairstyles, wigs, and makeup.

• Also maintains styles of wigs and facial hair during the run of assigned productions.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

General requirements for all positions:

 

• Experience in styling and care of Black/African American and multi-ethnic hair, wigs and wig making desired.

• Experience with makeup techniques for all skin types desired.

Wigmaster:

 

• Experience with wig construction required. Supervisory and scheduling experience desired.

Assistant Wigmaster:

 

• Experience with wig construction desired. Supervisory experience a plus.

Cosmetologist / Barber:

 

• Experience with haircutting required.

• And color application desired. Experience with wig construction desired.

• Must have a current cosmetology/barbering license. (does not have to be from the state of Utah)

• Previous backstage experience a plus.

Hair and Makeup Run Crew:

 

• Previous backstage experience a plus.
