College Laboratory Technician - Library

GENERAL DUTIES

Provides technology and learning support in one or more library facilities.

  • Assists faculty and students in using course-related technologies

  • Assists students with common technology problems

  • Provides technical support for library faculty offering instruction and/or workshops, for multi-media resources centers, and internet laboratories

  • Maintains course-related and library-specific technologies and equipment

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) for the library. The library is currently comprised of 11 full-time faculty members, a full-time administrative specialist, 8 CUNY Office Assistants, one full-time IT Associate, and several part-time faculty members and college assistants.

Reporting to the IT/Systems Librarian, the duties of the CLT will include but not be limited to:

  • Install, configure, support, update, and troubleshoot library hardware and software for faculty and student use.

  • Assist faculty members and students with technological needs in the library.

  • Maintain library networks and device network access.

  • Participate in planning for the library's technology needs, including student tech fee purchases.

  • Contact and interact with vendors to acquire and implement software upgrades and equipment maintenance.

  • Maintain records, such as equipment inventory, systems and operations logs, and documentation of computer programming activities for the library.

  • Monitor and maintain safety and proper usage standards for library equipment and tools.

  • Assist in the training and orientation of college assistants, and supervise other library support personnel as directed by management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years' experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Ability to communicate technical information to end users.

  • Experience with Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems, and with managing Group Policy within Active Directory domains.

  • Experience with Windows standard client or server imaging processes, particularly use of WAIK/ Sysprep Image X and unattend.xml.

  • Knowledge of basic programming and scripting language, including Visual Basic and Powershell task automation.

  • Familiarity with database management systems, preferably MYSQL.

  • Knowledge of learning and content management systems such as Brightspace, Blackboard and WordPress, as well as development and software suites including Visual Studio, Camtasia Studio, Microsoft Office, and Adobe applications, is a strong plus.

COMPENSATION

$54,222 - $65,896. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
