HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION Dental Assistant II in ABILENE, Texas

Job/Position DescriptionDental Assistant IIDental Assistant II is under the direct supervision of the Dentist and performs semi-technical clinical/clerical skills in the Dental Office. The Dental Assistant II is responsible for maintaining the dental office and scheduling patients for care. Entering documentation in the facility record system. Entry of protected health information (PHI) in databases must be performed accurately and the data must be protected. In addition, the Dental Assistant II performs dental assisting at chairside, in the operating room, infection control, and operatory preparation and clean-up. The Dental Assistant II's clerical duties include: general filing, telephone management for the department, intensive word processing, spreadsheet and database computer skills, and other office equipment skills, including copy machine and fax. The Dental Assistant II must be skilled in PMAB techniques and behavior intervention. The Dental Assistant II is required to register with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners within one year of employment and maintain yearly registration. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.1. Maintains smooth operation of the dental office by cleaning and organizing instruments, supplies and equipment. (20%)2. Maintains Dentrix schedule to ensure efficient and professional care for residents and efficient use of clinical dentist's and clinical hygienist's time. (20%)3. Provides chair-side dental assisting to clinical dentist and clinical hygienist. (20%)4. Enters protected health information in facility documentation (10%)5. Answers telephone and communicates with staff and residents. (5%)6. Maintains spreadsheets and databases. (5%)7. Completes clerical tasks such copying and filing. (5%)8. Maintains continuing education requirements as required by TSBDE. (5%)9. Maintains dental assisting registrations. (5%)10. Completes other duties as assigned. Hands onexperience organizing appointments in Dentrix calendar and exhibits responsibility to maintain the schedule on a daily basis.
